QUESTION1:Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?

I personaly think that I would hate to be any other characters. But if I had to choose
it would probably be Sofia. She is the character that strongly and proudly stands up for herself. She stood up and fought back when her husband thought he had the right to hit her when she did a mistake. She is also not afraid to be herself. In the book when a white lady asked her to be her maid she said she is not a slave to be doing that. She ended up in jail for disrespecting them. My point is that she is one of the characters I have lots of respect for and if I had to choose to be someone it would be her. Simply because she has a strong personality and stands up for herself.

QUESTION2:What do you think about a particular character's actions? Was he/she right or wrong to do that?
The most imppresive action that one of the characters took in this part of the book was Sofia disrespecting the mayor. She knocked the mayor down after he responded by hitting her. So she went to jail. I think that maybe it was not respectful, but after the mayor hit her I think Sofia had the right to hit him back.Even though I feel she could of done something else, but for right now I think that was the best way to let him know that he has no right to hit her.

NAME Jenny C DATE:2/12/10
BOOK The Color Purple
AUTHOR Alice Walker /PAGES 67-120

6. Explain how the author creates suspense in this book.

In this book the author created suspense by adding lots of details.
She kept me in suspense to know if the main character is ever going to fight back.
She would always get treated badly and never did anything, that's why the author kept me wanting to read this book.

10. What advice would you give to a particular character? Why?

If I had the chance to tell someone some advice it would be for Celie.
My advice would be as easy and simple. That's to fight back or do something
about how her husband treats her. She never does anything and if shes too scared to fight back it would be to run away.

QUESTION 1:What in the book upsets you or bothers you? Why?

RESPONSE: The thing that bothers me the more is that almost every girl in this book get either abused or raped for no reason. Celie the main character is only 20years old and has been pregnat so many times. She also has gotten beaten lots of times. She got beated by her dad, for no appearant reason. The thing that bothered me the most is that she didnt do anything about it. She wouldn't fight back, or react to the harsh beatings.

QUESTION 2:What was one of your favorite lines (or sentences) in what you read today?

RESPONSE :" Dont let them run over you, Nettie say. You got to let them know who got the upper had.
They got it, I say.
But she keep on, You got to fight. You got to fight.
But I don't know who to fight. All I know how to do is stay alive."

This conversation was between the main character Celie and her sister Nettie. Nettie ran away from home and went to visit Celie at her new house. Nettie was telling Celie how she was done with getting treated badly. There's were Celie realized how come she never doid that, stood up for herself. That's when Celie told her this. I realy like this conversation lines because I thought these words were very strong and heart warming. I mean if I put myself in Celies shoes I would have felt the same way about that.
